Mission

The Museum of Zoology is traditionally framed in the broader context of Natural History, i.e. the scientific branch aimed at reconstructing the stages through which continents, oceans, rocks, minerals, the atmosphere and living organisms, man included, originated and changed over time.

It collects, preserves and, in part, displas various kinds of exhibits, such as entire specimens or portions, products and remains of current and fossil animal species.

It is mostly aimed to three types of users:
  • researchers;
  • students;
  • the public.

The researchers are usually specialists who carry out research on scientific collections in one of the several zoological disciplines, such as morphology, comparative anatomy, histology, embryology, faunal studies, systematics, phylogeny, biogeography, ecology and ethology.

School students of all grades, from primary school to university, draw benefit from the educational collections through education and preparation outside of books.

The public learns valuable informations both thanks to the exhibits and the many initiatives organized by the Museum, which acts as a modern center to promote naturalistic culture and environmental education.
