Briganti collection

The collection includes more than 30,000 specimens of Staphylinidae Coleoptera among which there are numerous types or specimens of typical series. Almost all the Italian genera of this family are covered, there are also important South European and North African species.

The collection was assembled during the years 1960-1995 by naturalist and entomologist Luciano Briganti. In 1994 it was bought by the Museum of Zoology

The collection, arranged according to a systematic criterion, is kept in 2 modern handcrafted entomological cabinets and includes 131 (15,000 specimens) entomological boxes handcrafted in wood (measures: 29x36x6 cm), and includes about 15,000 preserved unprepared specimens in glass test tubes or in paper bags for insects. The collection, partly restored by Dr. Marcello Arnone, is in a good state of conservation both in regards to the animals and their supports (entomological tags and pins), there are no attacks of mold or harmful insects.
